Amitabh Bacchan is also widely known as Big B, Angry Young Man, Munna, etc. He is regarded as the ultimate Bollywood super star. He was born at Allahabad in Uttar Pradesh as the elder son of famous Hindi poet late Harivansh Rai Bachchan. He had done his studies from Sherwood College, Nainital and Kirori Mal College, Delhi University. In early days of his career, he shifted to Kolkata for working in a shipping firm Shaw Wallace Company. However, later his acting zeal moved him to Mumbai only to become the greatest star of the Indian Cinema.
The journey of Amitabh Bachhan was never easy and he overcame lots of hurdles. Initially, no directors and producers showed their interest in him as he was tall with dark complexion. He was considered as misfit for the role of lover boy. Hi first movie was “Saat Hindustani” which won him first National Film Award as Best Newcomer. His first megahit movie was “Zanjeer” in 1973 and it lifted the career of Amitabh Bachchan and established him as the “angry young man” of Bollywood. He ruled the box office for next one decade where he gave hit after hit every year. His famous movies of that decade include “Deewaar “, “Muqaddar Ka Sikander “, “Don “, “Sholay “, “Trishul “, “Kasme Vaade “, “Ram Balram “, “Shaan “, “Kaala Patthar “, “Mr. Natwarlal”, “, “Lawaaris ” and “Shakti “. In addition to being the successful action hero, he has also shown his calibre in comic roles in movies like “Chupke Chupke”, “Amar Akbar Anthony” and “Namak Halal”. He has given remarkable performance in the movies like “Kabhie Kabhie” and “Silsila”.
AB has a massive fan following not only in India but across the world. His fans span across all age groups from kids to youngsters to old people. His remarkable popularity was clearly evident when he got injured while shooting for the film “coolie”. Millions of fans across India prayed for his early recovery. AB also tried his hands at politics but later resigned. He started his production company ABCL which proved to be a big failure and AB was financially broken completely with debt of over 90 crores. It was then he decided to host a game show “Kaun Banega Karorpati” (KBC) on TV that changed his life. With that success and subsequent hits, AB came out of Debt and made a strong comeback in movies. Recently, he was awarded with National Award for best actor for his amazing acting display of Progeria child in movie “ Pa”.
Awards- Bachchan has won numerous major awards during his phenomenal acting career. His long award list includes four National Film Awards and thirteen Filmfare Awards. He also holds the record for maximum Best Actor as well as Best Supporting Actor nominations at the Filmfare Awards. He was worked as a television presenter, playback singer, and film producer.
