Katrina Kaif Biography
Katrina Torquotte, born on 16 July 1984 is a British Indian actress and former model who presumably hails from London. Brought up by her divorced mother, Kaif has seven siblings and has been a nomad before finally settling into Mumbai. Born in Hong Kong, she moved to China and then Japan. France, Switzerland, Poland, Germany, Belgium, Hawaii and England are the countries she lived before coming to India
Her secular religious views have taken her to various religious places in India including Hindu, Sikh and Islamic places of worship. The beautiful actress began her modeling career at the age of fourteen for a jewellery campaign. Her continued modeling in London for big houses led her to London Fashion week where she walked the ramp. Kaizad Gustad, a London based filmmaker introduced her to the world of cinema and gave her a character in his film ‘boom’ which was a box office failure.
Moving to Mumbai, Katrina was offered a number of modeling assignments but not many film contracts because of her poor command over Hindi language. Ram Gopal Verma gave her the first breakthrough in 2005 in his film ‘Sarkaar’ opposite Abhishek Bachchan. Mentioned as the ‘complete revelation’ for her movie ‘Maine pyaar kyu kiya’, this British citizen managed to impress Taran Darsh, a prominent film critic. Her poor knowledge and pronunciation of Hindi forced directors to dub Katrina’s voice in movies like ‘Namaste London’ (2007) and ‘Singh Is King’ (2008). Her final film of 2007, ‘Welcome’ was declared a blockbuster in India. Abbas –Mustan’s action thriller ‘Race’ was her first film in 2008 and was proclaimed successful. Her next ‘Singh is King’ was again a blockbuster and marked the sexiest actress’s six consecutive successes at the box office.
2009 was the victory year for Katrina with her firth movie ‘New York’ acknowledging critical and commercial success and giving her the first Filmfare nomination in Best Actress category. However India’s first underwater thriller ‘Blue’ turned out to be a flop. Her final film for the year ‘De Dana Dan’ had a most promising opening and received the above average status.
Prakash Jha’s political thriller ‘Rajneeti’ won acclaims for Kaif in 2010.Her next ‘Tees Maar Khan’ received negative reviews as well but did moderately on the box office. Her dynamic and vibrant character in ‘Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara’ (2011) was critically appreciated. Her next ‘Mere Brother Ki Dulhan’ also won this vivacious girl some positive notice. Voted as the sexiest woman in the world by Eastern Eye in 2008, 2009 and 2010, she has been honored by this title for the fourth time by Fashion magazine FHM. Her beautiful face has helped her bag many endorsements during her career. She was Coca-Cola’s brand ambassador in 2002 in Tamil Nadu.
Her flawless skin makes her the most desirable actress for skin products companies. She is currently endorsing Veet and several multinational brands such as Panasonic and is the brand ambassador of United Arab Emirates- Etihad Airways. Katrina is now regarded as one of the top most actresses in the Hindi film industry.
