Oprah Winfrey Biography
Oprah Winfrey was born on the 29th January 1954 out of the wedlock through Vernon Winfrey and her mother’s name was Vernita Lee in Kosciusko, Mississippi. Her mother was eighteen years old and she was a housemaid when she was impregnated by a twenty year old man in the armed forces. Oprah Winfrey was poor and black in complexion.
Oprah Winfrey was brought up through the help of her grandmother in the first 6 years on a Mississippi farm. When she was with her grandmother, she learnt how to read and by so doing have love for reading which was part of her hobbies. When she was at the age of 3, she started her open speaking profession through the sermons recitation to her church congregation as she read loudly. Even her grandmother could sense it that Oprah Winfrey was highly talented. Whenever she heard her grandmother utter such statement of ‘talented’, Oprah will interpret it has being a special being. This motivated her through out the time of her hardship.
When Oprah Winfrey was 6 years old, her mother took her to herself and started taking care of her responsibility as a mother in Milwaukee. Oprah Winfrey was with her mother throughout the age of 6 to age thirteen. At the age of nine, Oprah Winfrey was raped by one of her cousin. Her uncle and her mother’s male friend abused her. During this period, Oprah Winfrey could not disclose what she was passing through with anybody. Rather, she constantly ran away from home and her mom concluded in punishing her by putting her into detention. On getting there, she was not accepted because there is no space for her. Her mother then sends her to her father in Nashville.
At the age of 14, she was impregnated and deliver a baby boy at stillborn. She was highly upset and shocked with the death of the baby boy and promised herself to change and live a good life. To back the changes up, her father enforced a strict rules and discipline on her. She was able to graduate from high school with good grades and come out to her best. Oprah Winfrey life changed totally.
Oprah Winfrey started her first job as a reporter at 19 years of age on a radio station in Nashville. Immediately after she started the job, she was admitted to Tennessee state university to further her profession in radio and television broadcasting. Oprah Winfrey won many pageants such as Miss Tennessee and Miss Black Nashville in her first year in Tennessee State University. She obtained her BA in speech and performing Art.
Oprah Winfrey was able to host a TV show tagged “People are talking” in 1978 in Baltimore. She participated in Steven Spielberg’ film due to her successful leading and won an Academy Award. Oprah Winfrey began her show in 1986 called Oprah Winfrey Show.
Oprah Winfrey, the black, poor, farm girl from Mississippi is now a National celebrity. She is now unstoppable. Oprah Winfrey is a producer, actress, founder of o, the Oprah Magazine. She is also the co-founder of oxygen media and a philanthropist.
