Selena Gomez Biography
Selena Marie Gomez, an American actress and singer was born on July 22, 1992 in Grand Prairie, Texas to mother Amanda Dawn, a former stage actress and father Ricardo Joel Gomez. Named after Tejano singer ‘Selena’, this little girl had an early interest for acting and the source being her mother. Seeing her mother getting ready and acting in theatre would excite her and made her long to do the same. She earned a high school diploma through homeschooling in May 2010. She debuted as an actress at the age of seven in ‘Barney and Friends’ and later acted some minor roles in ‘Spy Kinds 3D: Game over’ and the TV film ‘Walker’ and ‘Texas Ranger’. In 2004, discovered by Disney Channel, Gomez guest starred in ‘The Suite Life of Zack and Cody’ and in ‘Hannah Montana’ which later became a permanent role.
In 2007, with one of the main character of ‘Wizards of Waverly Place’ in hand, the child star’s career finally started shining. In 2008, the multitalented teen recorded ‘Fly to Your Heart’ for the animated film Tinker Bell and signed a recording deal with ‘Hollywood Records’. The same year she came into a relationship with ‘Nick Jonas’ which ended very soon. Fifth on the list of “Eight hot kid stars to watch”, Gomez also starred in ‘Another Cinderella story’ and did a minor voice over role in ‘Horton Hears a Who!’. Gomez also launched her own production company in 2008, July Moon productions and partnered with XYZ films.
Her teen pop band “Selena Gomez and the Scene” released their debut studio album ‘Kiss and tell’ in 2009 and soon this band was certified Gold by RIAA. She has also been an amazing host as can be proven by the show ‘Sears Arrive Air Band Casting Call’. In the same year she starred as one of the two female leads in ‘Ramona and Beezus’ and started dating Taylor Lautner whom she met in Vancouver where both of them were shooting. After a few months media poked their nose in this relationship and forced them to separate.
Disney Channel has always been generous on the teen star giving her a guest appearance in ‘Sonny With a Chance’ and lead role in movie ‘Princess Protection Program’. Her show ‘Wizards of Waverly Place’ won the “Outstanding Children’s Program” at the 61st Primetime Emmy Awards. 2010 was opened with the teenager’s own fashion line called “Dream out loud by Selena Gomez”.
In February 2011, the ‘Monte Carlo’ star attended the Vanity Fair Oscar party with love Justin Bieber confirming her relationship with the singer and being addressed as the ‘teen power couple’. Her career is going strong in 2012 with six films in her bag and five of which has her in the lead. She will first appear in ‘Hotel Transylvania’ scheduled to release in September and then in ‘Spring Breakers’ which will release in spring 2013. ’13 reasons why’ will be her next movie and after that ‘Hot Mess’. She has also filmed a cameo for ‘Aftershock’, an upcoming thriller. As a philanthropist, Gomez is a UNICEF’s spokesperson for the Trick-or-Treat and the youngest ambassador of this organization.
